Course Descriptions

DRAWING
Practice drawing from photographs, still-life, landscapes and live figures. Media will include china marker, pencil, charcoal, color pencils, oil pastels and ink.

PAINTING
Practice painting from photographs, still-life, landscapes and live figures. Media will include watercolor, acrylic, gouache and oil paints. This class designed for students who have taken at least a basic Drawing class.

2D DESIGN
An introduction to various media and guidance through a series of projects that will help become familiar with how to use the Elements and Principles of Art and Design to enhance the visual strength of personal projects.

ILLUSTRATION
Participate in series of creative exercises designed to break creative blocks, brainstorm ideas, and collect references. Practice a variety of two-dimensional illustration and paper craft techniques.

PRINTMAKING
Learn mono-print, relief and silkscreen printmaking techniques.

PORTFOLIO
Build upon fine art skills.  Develop a body of work that reflects technical and conceptual maturity.  Receive help writing an artist statement and completing college applications. Work will be photographed for digitally portfolios.

INTRO TO GRAPHIC DESIGN
An introduction to Adobe PhotoShop and Illustrator.

GRAPHIC DESIGN II
Explore basic advanced principles of design, typography, layout and creative solutions to graphic design problems and graphic art.

INTRO TO WEB DESIGN
Learn web coding and web layout design basics. Introduction to HTML & CSS. 

Intro to Animation
Use a stop-motion technique to create a two-dimensional and/or three-dimensional animation that communicates a storyline. They will also be able to define the concepts of: placement, framing, direction, and speed.

WORKSHOPS
Art History: Cultural Art Projects, Paper Crafts (including: pop-ups and origami), Nature Journaling, Comic Book Illustration, macramé and friendship bracelets, T-Shirt Design, Re-working (building from recycled materials), Fun with Physics (building science projects from house-hold material), Lego Robotics, Team Building and Youth Empowerment through Community Service etc.
